Can you believe our little comedy shorts festival is going to the big screen?  Well, we are!  I am pleased to announce we are joining forces with the FilmDayton Festival this year, August 24th at the Neon Theater in downtown Dayton.  We are going to be on the big screen and it will be the best incarnation yet.  I am really thrilled that we have teamed up with them and this is getting bigger than I ever really imagined and that is great stuff.  We will screen on Friday night and I’ll have more details as we get closer.

Do you want to have one of your shorts showcased?  Here’s the submission details:

Funny.  Any video that is funny.  Under 5 minutes.  Under 5 minutes and funny.  All submissions must be received by August 6th, 2012.  FREE.  I must have the physical copy or digital copy of your short by 8/6 and NO LATER in the following formats:  .mov or .mp4.  The process of screening and compiling these shorts is time consuming, so I need at least 2 1/2 weeks to be in front of it all.  RECAP:  Under 5 minutes, FUNNY, in my hands by 8/6/12.  The higher quality the better, but remember that if something is funny, that trumps all else.  ALL else.

Those are the only rules.  The time limit is so we can showcase as many videos by as many filmmakers as we can in the 90 minute time frame.  90 minutes is the best length of time for a comedy and much consideration goes into building this 90 minute collective of shorts to build and provide a unique and hilarious viewing experience.

Flick My Clip started as an attempt to unite the creative forces and minds of stand up comedians and filmmakers in the Southern Ohio area.  It seemed like a natural fit and has proven to be just that so far.  The number of creative forces and minds in this area is immense and this comedy shorts festival is a great way for these forces to unite and collide.  The local talent is the focus and the outside contributors are a unique way to get introduced to the creative minds working hard outside the local frame of comedic reference.

Just for more clarification about the types of videos we will consider:  anything that you have filmed and edited that you think is funny can be submitted.  Including the pilots of web series, individual episodes of web series that are stand alone funny, music videos, spoofs, sketches, anything.  I am not going to be actively looking for copyright violations, so please try your best to submit only original works.  But, we are not that corporate or mainstream and I can appreciate the guerilla style filmmaker.  Just make people laugh.

For those of you who are aware of my career up to this point, you know that I enjoy making acceptance speech videos for awards that I do not win.  See Comic’s Comic Award Acceptance Speech video at bottom of this page.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted numerous times for me to win CMT’s Next Big Comic Contest and although I did not win, it was enjoyable being a part of it with some great comics and friends.  To be honest, I was not expecting to make it out of the first round, so to get to the finals was pretty cool.

And even though I did not win, I am still on a mission to meet Gary Allan.  I am currently listening to his newest album, “Get Off on the Pain,” right now and it is awesome.  So, here is my latest acceptance speech video that would have aired on CMT if I would have won.  I am posting here in an attempt to cement my future place as the pre-2008 Martin Scorcese of award winning.  Its not all about winning, its about having fun along the way.  Congrats to my buddy, Pete Lee for winning!

I am proud to announce that we are doing a second installment of the “Flick My Clip – Comedy Shorts Festival.” The inaugural screening was a success. And yes, I used the term “inaugural” as I intend for it to become an institution rivaling that of Sundance and the like.  The Second Installment will be held once again at Go Bananas Comedy Club and will be on February 16th, 2010.  We had awesome shorts graciously given to us for screening by so many talented folks, it was a real treat and I am hoping to make it even bigger and better this time around.  I want you to be a part of it!

Part of the reason, the main reason why we wanted to start this festival is to get the local comedians with a love of making comedy shorts and local filmmakers who have a love of comedy together in a collaborative relationship. At least, in my mind, it seems beneficial that these two worlds would merge at least for moments of glory in the future. Why not try to get the best out of the resources and talent in our area?

We had some great surprises at the festival and I hope for even more this time around. I am begging at this point for all local and national and worldly short comedy filmmakers to submit to me their videos. If you think it is funny, I want to see it. There is no prize, no esteemed recognition that comes along with acceptance at this point. But, you will get your hard work showcased in front of some great and truly educated fans of comedy. The local comedy fans in Cincinnati and the surrounding areas have proven time and time again that they would and in fact, will support comedy that they find meets their demands.

No matter how rich, how famous, how disconnected I may ever become, one thing is certain: I intend to carry on the tradition of “Flick My Clip” until I am in the grave. “The Man Kiss”

What people cannot tell by watching this video is what actually happened at the end of it. As “Dewey” played by Ryan Fohl, jumped into my arms as he was open-mouth kissing me, I accidentally bit his lip and injured him. But, that is not the only way I injured him because as he jumped in my arms, my back went out and as you can tell, I drop him on the ground. His fall was broken by a monitor, the speaker on the stage in the middle of his back. It is amazing that he could walk off the stage. What we do for comedy…
