This is going to happen whether I like it or not.  I will be at Go Bananas Comedy Club Easter weekend (April 5-7) recording my new album, “Comedy Wonder Town.”  I would love it if you came out to all of the shows.  That’s right, not just one of the shows, or two, or three, but all of them.  If you come out Thursday night ESPECIALLY and then at least 2 more of the shows, you’ll get an insane gift bag from me to you.

This is going to be a comedy show that should be wonderful.  At least, it is my hope that it will be full of wonder.  Since I am recording a new album I will not be doing some of the bits you may know already.  But, fear not, as I hope that some of the bits you have not heard will be equally enjoyable to you and your ear holes.  I think my journey as a stand up comedian is still in the early stages and am glad that if you are reading this you are helping me along my path.  I am encouraged by the direction of my comedy and there are too many people to thank here at this time for that happening.

Amber Preston from Minneapolis will be featuring all the shows that weekend.  She is splendid, funny, awesome, and you’re going to love her.  I am certain of that fact.  Are there some great comics in Cincinnati that could have featured for me?  You bet your sweet ass there are, but you might not have had the chance to discover Amber if we kept it all in-house so to speak.  That is why that is happening and also because I like watching her tell jokes and I am being selfish.

I am Wichita, Kansas, right now as I write this and had a great weekend.  The last time I worked here I did not have the same experience.  I was a bit skeptical that these audiences were going to go along for some of the journeys we would take, but they did for the most part.  I am off to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in two days to do one more weekend of shows tuning up for the recording weekend.  If these jokes can work out here where Rick Santorum wins, they should be just fine in a club that I am deeply in love with and always have been.

I’d be lying if I said I was not nervous.  I feel like this guy. But, trust that I will overcome because its Amore!

April 4th I will be performing at the University of Kentucky with Sam Evans and I am certain that it will be glorious.  If you live close by and want to hear what my new album might sound like it will be the last time I am able to run it before I can record it.

In other news, if I have seemed a bit detached from it all lately it is because I have immersed myself into Comedy Wonder Town once again, but the album not the pilot this time.  One must work to find their peace.  My peace has been anywhere but of my mind lately and Comedy Wonder Town just might save the day yet again.  Come join me and let us go on this journey towards trying to make quality art together.  I need you.  Yea, you.  I am talking directly to you.  I really fucking need you.  Thanks.

Recently, as you may or may not be aware, I was in Chicago doing a show.  I was there with my buddies Tom Simmons and Billy Wayne Davis to do our weird and strange comedy show “Kooks.”  We did not know really anything about the podcast when we agreed and even when we went to do it as is the case with many podcasts.  You just never really know what you’re getting into and that is half the fun of doing them.

We cover all kinds of weirdness and then we get serious for about 3 seconds and then start being foolish again.  I think you will find that the topics we covered are right up your alley if you enjoy coming to this website and enjoy some of the same things I do out on the fringe of the news and the fringe of social circles.  Life is way too short to be always worrying about the normal stuff.  It is great and fun to go overboard and down the rabbit hole if you keep your sense of humor about it.

There are some commercials at the beginning and throughout the episode, but here’s a hint:  you can skip ahead!  Hooray!  Unless you enjoy listening to them, then feel free.  And my apologies to anyone old enough to be offended by a misplaced reference I used as a joke in this podcast.  Everyone knows your generation was awesome and I did not try to give some of that awesomeness to a different group of people.  My schedule is updated, too!

You should see my schedule as I have added a lot of dates opening for Marc Maron around the country at some pretty radical places that I have yet to perform.  So, I am looking forward to those dates and will be moving out west to Los Angeles in one month from now.  I am looking forward to living where I no longer need an ice scraper again, it has been way too long.  Also, will be (fingers crossed) filming a new web series in the next coming days and hope to have the episodes start going live before I leave for California.

The Kooks are back and are alive again!  I mean, we are live again.  Tom Simmons, Billy Wayne Davis and I are bringing our bizarre and crazy comedy who to Cincinnati and Chicago the first week of May. The above is just a short promo video of some of what the show will cover. You can’t make sense of the video above? Good. We are trying to make sense of the crazy world that surrounds us and the mixed messages we receive from all of our supposedly legitimate sources.

Kooks is based on the assumption that once you lose your sense of humor about what you believe in, you no longer have the ability to effectively communicate those ideas. Don’t take yourself so seriously and then maybe, just maybe you can have a positive impact on the world and other people around you.

Bring your tin foil hats and your open minds to this show and you just may leave not knowing anything that you thought you once knew. The goal is to have a few laughs as we travel down the road to enlightenment.

Last night, my roomate Sherif and I went to go get video footage of the burnt down Jesus statue that was struck by lightning.  The police were not letting anyone on the grounds to get any footage, so we decided to sneak onto the property some way.  That way turned out to be a trek down railroad tracks, through 6 foot weeds and a lot of mud.  After a long hike through all this shit, we found a way through police tape and got onto the premises for the only footage from inside the church grounds of the fire.

We did not get a lot of footage as we had to make a hasty exit, but we got the scoop on all the local news channels.  I think it is called, “the scoop,” but I could be wrong.  Regardless of what it is called, when we left the grounds hurriedly, the local news vans were looking at us like we just stole their favorite toy.  Suckas!

This past weekend I was at one of my favorite clubs, the Bloomington, IN, Funny Bone working.  I have worked there a bunch of times now and always love going there because of the owners and local comedians and staff.  This time I was working with Marc Maron, who if you know stand up comedy, you know.  If you don’t know stand up comedy, you probably still know him even if you don’t think you do.  I know you’ve see him.  I’m sure of it.  Point is, it was one of those really awesome comedy weekends and it surpassed even my expectations for it.

I do not have much time somehow to watch a lot of television or do stuff like that, but I do listen to about 3 different podcasts when given the opportunity on a long drive or a spare hour at home.  Marc Maron is the host of one of those.  It is called “WTF” and it is awesome for any casual or die hard comedy fan.  This episode has an awesome conversation with one of my other favorite comedians, Robert Hawkins.  The guy is an absolute beast on stage and if you haven’t seen him live its only because you have not tried.  He is always touring and will certainly be at a comedy club near you at some point in the near future.

This installment of Under the Rock is going to be video heavy. Why? Because it needs to be. That’s why. I feel I have been remiss by not embedding more videos of the artists that I have been writing about instead of just linking you to their stuff. Although just having to click a mouse once or twice seems as though it would be quite simple to do, let’s be honest. Nowadays, if it is not right in front of our faces, we seldom will click our way to find it unless it is a thing or person we are seeking out on our own.  So…

I am going to embed some funny videos that I watch over and over and over again due to their awesomeness, originality, hilarity, or just plain nonsensicalness. I hope you also enjoy these videos as it would be a great indicator of the future of our growing, burgeoning friendship. If you do not like these videos, it is okay. It is better we find out now that we are not truly compatible than finding it out after we have moved in together.

Tim Minchin is one of my new favorite people in the world. He is so funny and he is huge overseas. I had not heard of him until recently and my life is so much better now because of it. The first video I ever saw of him was not necessarily a hugely hilarious video, but I think it speaks to a couple of things: He is insanely gifted and he has an incredibly wide range, which will be exhibited by the videos I am embedding to follow. The first one will take 6 minutes of your life and you will be glad it did, if not wishing it took more. Further speaking to his bad-ass-ness, he has a youtube video so his fans can watch videos of live performances. This video is one such case:

The awesome website eastsidevibe.com did a short, but cool review of one of the shows I did over the holidays at Go Bananas Comedy Club.  I appreciate the ink and the fact that they came out and took a chance on catching my show without knowing me in advance and now are spreading my comedy around even though their site did not have any specific comedy reviews and profiles on it before – at least for individual performers.  The photo is pretty cool and I am thinking of right-clicking it and using it for my promo in the future.  Here’s a small snippet if you’re not convinced to click on the above link to the article:

The artwork in the photo is hanging in the entrance hallway at Go Bananas and was painted by a buddy of mine that I started out in comedy with, Darin Overholser.  His art is really badass and you should check his stuff out at his website, illustratorguy.com.  If you have ever been inside of the club, you know that throughout the whole place, his artwork is hanging up and it is all pop culture brilliance.  One day, when I have money, I am going to buy up all his stuff…for reals.

I got to meet this girl, Kaleigh Brooke, who is on some reality show on TLC about pageant queens and the like.  She was cool and as you can tell by her photos, not so hard on the eyes.  Have fun wasting hours photo stalking her, dudes.  Good luck to her and her batshit crazy mom on getting along in the future.  “$50,000 invested in her career…” was the thing I heard most out of the mom’s mouth.  Must not be cheap titties!  Best of luck, girl.

Secondly, I got tazed…twice.  For the record, I would like to say that I have always been sickly curious as to what it felt like to be tazed, but not curious enough to actively pursue it.  Sometimes you are just handed opportunities.  The universe has a special way of knowing when and where to give you these gifts.  I honestly thought that it was a gag tazer gun up until the moment of contact.  Who would really taze someone live on air?  No one is that stupid or foolish, right?  Wrong.  Roll the footage:

Do you see why I am right?  Every track on this album is “popular” with the exception of mine.  My comedy is SO damned good there are not enough popularity bars to even visually represent it largeness and ultra-awesomeness.  Now, that is impressive, Oasis.  Needless to say, I will be retiring early and living off of my royalty checks.
