You handled that extremely well…but I hope you got your five bucks back! I don’t think they deserved your money whatsoever.

  13. November 21, 2009 at 2:55 pm

You know, I fully intended to get my $5 back and I did not. They just kind of took the money and got the hell out of there…not really. I should not have given it to her in the first place, but sometimes you pay to learn lessons.

We’re approaching that time of year again…so for 2010, I vote for the look presented in the bottom photo – the “Psycho Singer” look as I like to call it. There’s a guy who truly knows how to get high without drugs.
I think the beard helps exude the most confidence and adds a ton of character, and the short hair gives off an ‘edgy’ vibe to your presentation and compliments your delivery/content moreso than any other style.

Met you at Maron in Chicago. You had a great set. I became an instant fan.

I am so sorry to hear of your grandmother’s passing. This was so nice to read. I connect with your writing. I am thankful for the human connections I have made in my life and continue to make. My mother used to tell me when I experienced difficulties with friends or girlfriends – as you said – in the end, family and friends are exactly what we have. I try to let them know how much I care for them. More so, as I grow older. Just turned 39 – in my fortieth year and looking forward.

I am glad to have found you, Ryan. I enjoy your comedy. I wish you well. Again, my sincere condolences.

    Go get ’em!

I feel like there should be a part two to this. Something about current events. Like how as time went on the crackers eventually began to turn into doughnuts and the epidemic spread throughout the country. Then how many of the crackers avoided this fate by turning into granola bars but many more would go too far and become protein bars who scared all the other cookies away and would only be accepted in professional sporting events. Some of the crackers figured out they could run the cookie jar on potato batteries and tried to convince the others to stop trying to fight the pecan sandies over the crisco. Just a thought.

Your passion and positivity is truly infectious. Thank you for reminding me how awesome this life is.

  57. May 24, 2013 at 2:29 pm

I’ve heard that big ideas exist because we all agree to believe in them as a people. If we stopped believing in money, it wouldn’t work anymore. If we stopped believing in Hollywood, it might stop being.

When I read things like this, about other people who are so dedicated to funneling positivity into this completely insane, delusional world of comedy, it pumps up my faith in all of this, and I remember that I exist in a world that is purely sustained on our delusions, and the whole delusion is so good that who could deny it?

I have so much hope for comedy that I just cried all over the work computer. Rockin blog, buddy.

When I first saw you on stage, I was blown away at how incredible of a standup comic you are. I thought that even though I may never be that good ever, I want to try. Since then we’ve become good friends and I have been blown away at how incredible of a standup person you are. Your influence has had the single greatest, positive effect on my life since I started pursuing this insane and unpractical way of life. You taught me a perspective that transcends comedy: there is no destination, it’s all about the journey.

    You’re the BEST!

Its like you learn my thoughts! You appear to grasp a lot
about this, like you wrote the guide in it or something.

An excellent read. I will definitely be back.

  70. July 16, 2013 at 4:43 pm

Ryan – what an inspiring post. I really like your message here and as a comedian who struggles every day with the “am I good enough?, will I ever be good enough? what am I doing? Did I start too late?” questions, you provided a poignant perspective about the journey – the most important part.

I am going to mention this today in my blog (marckayetoday.wordpress.com) because it is so great to hear a positive message from a successful comedian.

Hope we get to work together one day.

  83. July 3, 2014 at 2:43 pm

Ryan – I love this. I think the “uniqueness” everyone wants is mislabeled – what we really want is to be authentic, and in that authenticity we say and do the things that make us human- which everyone else can relate to. Our uniqueness is just being who we are, And who we are resonates with the Whole. You’re the best- cannot wait to catch up.

Th a deja vuanks it’s kinda hard to explain the only thing I could say it is is a deja vu of a deja vu …and being that I experience deja vus so often it is not every time that Ithat it happens with the double it’s more like every othertime that it happens like thatI’m very very intuitive ever since I was younger andvery aware of what goes on in my day or my head or experiences analytically a guess or over analyze or thought about so when It does happen it is usually pretty recent of a memory of an experience that happened already if that makes any senseit’s not a question of when it was like I can usually pinpoint what it was a week or two but I know that it still the experience of deja vuI’d be willing to talk to you more in Detail if you wanted me to call I thought we could maybe talk over the phone cause I’m curious what you could find out

this was a wonderful interview – but, you were soo so vague about what actually happened. i understand you wanted to keep her identity quiet, but you never described what exactly happened when she morphed. saying “…she changed into a different person…” doesn’t mean anything. changed how? i kept hoping you would at least try to give some sort of description – her nose was longer, her eyes were a different color, her skin tone changed.. something. i’ve seen peoples faces change when the mushrooms were in force – but even then, what i saw was like an overlay over their normal face.

Great intro to tulpamancy. If you look up the “Slender man” that is a supposed modern tulpa. Also, David Weatherly has solid info on the subject too. Great podcasts on this site, came across everything today.

Possible people to look into (if you haven’t already) for interesting topics could be David Paulides, about missing people and Linda Moulton Howe, who covers all types of high strangeness from the environment, science and x files

Thanks for doing this one! Quantum immortality is definitely one of the most interesting subtopics related to the many worlds theory. I know it’s not the most formal or reliable source, but I found that certain communities on Reddit have really kick-started my interest in this theory. “Glitch in the matrix” is a cool one, where people share their first-hand accounts of odd things that have happened to them that shouldn’t be physically possible, from duplicating household items, to losing substantial amounts of time, to quantum immortality stories (most people on this subreddit will relate these occurrences to the simulation theory, but I personally believe it is related to the many worlds theory, or both.) “Dimensional Jumping” is another great one which teaches you how to intentionally jump between dimensions, and people share their progress. Admittedly I’ve tried a couple of the methods and have seen no results yet, but I still find it fascinating.

I think “The Mandela Effect” is the one that sealed the deal for me, though. I have a feeling you probably have come across this phenomenon before, but if not, a visit to mandelaeffect.com is totally worth your time. But I must warn you, if you have not gone down this rabbit hole yet, you will have a really tough time getting out. The way you perceive reality will not be the same.

in reference to OSHO, look up his wikipedia. He changed his name to Osho from Rajneesh after he got deported when his cult of wackjobs tried to poison a bunch of elderly folk in Oregon at a buffet restaurant. He was a typical sex cult leader who condemned homosexuals and said that blind and deaf kids should be euthanized. He also collected Rolls Royces and AK-47s and was supposedly addicted to Nitrous Oxide in his later years. Hippie yoga chicks love quoting him but all of his info is rehashed from older traditions and put into his words, which makes him sound wise. Great genius of a conman/cult leader who obviously went completely insane at the end of his reign. Probably not a bad 3rd ear bonus subject if you like cult leaders, but there was nothing really mystical or paranormal about him. Just another fraud.

It is more fun to believe, but I found this episode to be rather… unbelievable. Staged hoaxes like this ruin credibility for an otherwise phenomenal podcast. A certain amount of trust is allotted to anyone speaking of and for paranormal matters as no one knows for sure what is “real”. Please don’t abuse this trust again.

You should talk to Frater X, he is/was a Freemason and even wrote a book titled ‘The Secret War Inside Freemasonry’. I’m sure he would be up for a chat about Freemasonry. It’s also weird that while listening to this pod-cast yesterday that I heard a news story about a stonemason being crushed between two granite slabs in my hometown.
“A stonemason has died after being crushed by two slabs of granite at a business on Brisbane’s bayside.
Ray Finch, 61, was killed when the 300-kilogram slabs fell off the back of a truck while it was being unloaded at Cleveland.”

    January 3, 2017 at 5:35 pm

Hey Ryan, not to take the seriousness off the subjects you discuss on your pod-cast show here, but have you ever thought of pitching a kind of X-File type Night-stalker TV show to a network like HBO?
I think a fictional show about a comedian touring the national comedy circuit who is into paranormal interests (even running an internet paranormal pod-cast show maybe) and who keeps running into people with some spooky skeletons in their closets would make a great show, which could cater to people who are really into these weird subjects, but also just for people after a bit of entertainment and maybe a few good jokes and laughs per show.
You could also have go-between characters like the “astral” projectionist who you’re buddies with at the local cinema who could send these people your way and maybe some kind of Brit Marling type actress who works on bringing occult subjects to the public’s consciousness through her acting/writing roles.
I think a HBO type network would be great as you could then probably tell adult humour and discuss trippy drug experiences on the show, where maybe a network like Fox would want a more family friendly show.
As Ray says in this current episode, sometimes bringing a sense of humour to serious and sometimes terrifying subject matter is one way of introducing these subjects to the public consciousness.
    Something to think about maybe?

You should try to interview Dan Aykroyd, because apart from co-writing and starring in the ‘Ghostbuster’ movies he is right into this stuff for real.
According to Wikipedia, “Aykroyd considers himself a Spiritualist, stating that:
I am a Spiritualist, a proud wearer of the Spiritualist badge. Mediums and psychic research have gone on for many, many years…. Loads of people have seen spirits, heard a voice or felt the cold temperature. I believe that they are between here and there, that they exist between the fourth and fifth dimension, and that they visit us frequently.[33]
His great-grandfather, a dentist, was a mystic who corresponded with author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on the subject of Spiritualism, and who was a member of the Lily Dale Society.[33]

Other than Spiritualism, Aykroyd is also interested in various other aspects of the paranormal, particularly UFOlogy. He is a lifetime member of and official Hollywood consultant for the Mutual UFO Network. Along these lines, he served, from 1996 to 2000, as “host” of Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, which claimed to describe cases drawn from the archives of “The Office Of Scientific Investigation And Research.” In 2005, Aykroyd produced the DVD Dan Aykroyd: Unplugged on UFOs.[34] Aykroyd is interviewed for 80 minutes by UFOlogist David Sereda discussing in depth many aspects of the UFO phenomenon.[35]

On September 29, 2009, Peter Aykroyd Sr., Dan’s father, published a book entitled A History of Ghosts. This book chronicled the family’s historical involvement in the Spiritualist Movement, to which Aykroyd readily refers. Aykroyd wrote the introduction and accompanied his father on a series of promotional activities, including launches in New York and Toronto, appearances on Larry King Live, Coast to Coast AM and various other public relations initiatives.
Aykroyd also read the introduction for the audio version of the book.[citation needed] In 1997, the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry(CSICOP) awarded Aykroyd “in absentia the Snuffed Candle Award for hosting Psi Factor and being a “long-time promoter … of paranormal claims” Following the awards, Joe Nickell wrote to Aykroyd asking for the research behind the “cases” presented on Psi Factor.
Particularly a claim that NASA scientists were “killed while investigating a meteor crash and giant eggs were found and incubated, yielding a flea the size of a hog” ”

All of the ingredients for a great podcast I think.

You’re a sensible guy — don’t waste time on Sitchin. There are very few people competent to translate cuneiform, and as an amateur with an agenda, he wasn’t one of them. His interpretations of Mesopotamian texts are generally nonsensical.

Hey Ryan. I wanted to share a couple brief examples of my experiences with lucid dreaming and one particularly memorable one which i believe to be related to false awakenings.. and maybe even sleep paralysis within a false awaking. .. I’ll just share that one.. I often have nightmares where I wake up yelling and screaming. My wife has to wake me up to stop my horrible noises, sometimes risking injury as I tend to thrash around and even jump out of bed when I have vivid dreams. Anyway, on this occasion I had just woken up screaming in the dark from a nightmare and I felt my wife shaking me awake. I calmed myself down and reached to turn on the light. something about the rooms orientation threw off my balance and I fell off the bed as the light switch flicked on. I turned to see if my wife were laughing at me and as I looked up my own face sat up from the other side of my wife, staring intensely at me with incredibly vivid features, which quickly transformed nightmarishly into something i no longer recognized as my own face. I then awoke again into this reality, shaken up but not panicing as i had been in the false awakening. … I mention this because, although i was not fully paralysed, my dream-body experienced an awakening that my own body did not.

listening to the latest podcast …he’s talking about Rasputin not Nostradamus

  143. Evan
    February 7, 2017 at 6:59 am

It’s Rasputin he is talking about not Nostradamus. The Heir apparent to Tsar Nicholas II, (Alexi) had hemophilia and his frailty threatened the dynasty. Rasputin was an alleged monk from Siberia who performed healing rituals on the child. Tsar Nicholas took command of the army during The Great War and left to the Eastern front. His wife remained in Russia to rule. There was scandal that Rasputin, (who was a serious boozer and womanizer) was having an affair with the Tsarina. When the Russians were struggling desperately and rebellion was likely the British government sent a secret service agent Oswald Rayner who worked with Prince Felix Yusupov to assassinate him because they were afraid he would convince the Tsarina to seek peace and leave the British to fight the Germans alone. Felix invited Rasputin to dinner and he poisoned him, (poorly) when Rasputin caught on Felix shot him with a small caliber hand gun in the torso, (poorly) he escaped upstairs and out a window after being beaten, (poorly) and when he collapsed Rayner shot him in the forehead, (likely a Webley .455). The body was dismembered, the penis removed, and he was dumped into a river. To overwrite history and justify his deed Yuspov wrote the book, “Rasputin: His Malignant Reign and His Assassination”. It was translated into English by Oswald Rayner. The book is the source of the mythos surrounding his supernatural resistance to mortality. Likely a pampered price unfit to murder a man was the reason for the excessive violence. The legend of Anastasia I know less about. I do know that there was a woman who claimed for decades to be Anastasia who was a fraud, I think she died in the 1980s.

Rasputin only studied religion very briefly. He was mostly a petty thief and…well… date-rapist. You spoke earlier about cult leaders claiming to store salvation in their ‘Hog’ I think he was the first to gain fame for doing so. He was born dirt poor for certain….Also…reprehensible hygiene. Stood up in restaurants pulling his dick out waggling it around claiming that it was the ruler of Russia. Not a good dude.

and I thought it would be cool for you guys to do a podcast about the show in a ‘spoiler alert’ edition discussing what you guys like, or dislike about the series and your ideas about what the show is trying to tell the viewer.

        February 15, 2017 at 2:14 am

That’s pretty funny, because with you being a comedian I deliberately wrote CK instead of Chris Knowles thinking that way you might think of Louis CK (although I thought it was a long-shot) and take a look at his post over at ‘The Secret Sun’ if you didn’t know anything about the guy.
Chris has a pretty big following in the UFO/Sync ‘community’ and while I might not agree with everything he writes (not that I can think of anyone that I do) I always find his stuff interesting.
Plus I think a talk between you two guys about ‘The OA’ would be worth listening to.
So it’s a kind of a selfish request, but I think it will cause slight ripples that will be good for both you, Chris and the OA show in general.
But I have a feeling that you go with your gut and already know that anyway…but I could be wrong? 🙂
I bought a cushion cover from your merch store a few weeks ago with the Me/Paranormal You hand on it and it looks good resting on my bed half a world away (Australia).
        Great design.
I think of it like one of those Hamsa hands that ward off the evil eye, but since I don’t have a mother-in-law around anymore after my divorce, I probably don’t need it.
Still, better safe than sorry. 😉

Interesting story about the green lottery ticket which reminds me of a sync-head friend of mine named Alan Green who had a similar win where he picked a four numbered lotto game and won after a premonition to play those four digits.
He is the editor of ‘The Sync Book’s and you can here Alan talk about that lotto win in an audio interview at this link, if you are interested –

Probably just talking to the wall here, but maybe you should interview Rodney Ascher the director and editor, known for Room 237 (2012), The Nightmare (2015) and The S from Hell (2010)?
The Nightmare is an excellent film about real people suffering from sleep paralysis and seeing such figures as the Thin Man, aliens etc and it should be on Netflix.
Rodney admits to suffering from sleep paralysis himself, which is why he made the movie.

    Hi Ryan,

I was wanting to email you for a while to ask you to speak about Lily Dale. It was great hearing you mention Lily Dale on the Ouija Board 3rd Ear Bonus. I live in Toronto, Canada and have been listening to you since you were on the Marc Maron WTF podcast. I am both a comedy fan and interested in everything esoteric. It was a great treat seeing you open for Marc Maron last November in Toronto.

Getting back to Lily Dale, I have gone about 5 times and it is close by, just 1 hour outside of Buffalo for us Torontonians. I reccommend you go during the summer months and stay a weekend. You can stay inside the gated community or just outside at a nearby hotel. Friday night people gather around and have a drumming circle. The rest of the weekend there are free activities on the grounds and free readings twice a day in the forest. There is a pet cemetary a healing outdoor temple (Reiki inside for free) and a beautiful forest. The meduims have homes on the grounds and you can sign up for a personal reading. They are usually booked solid in the summer, but you might be lucky.

There are wonderful estoteric stores with great things to buy (books, cyrstals, etc) and the people are really friendly. The main house has both a Canadian and American flag and people congregate outside and sit on the rocking chairs and get to know each other.

Next time you are doing a show in New York or Toronto, book a weekend to drive to Lily Dale in the summer season, you will love it. I was so hoping you would mention on your podcast and you did. The history of Sprititualism is so cool. I did get a very accurate reading a few years ago from a medium named Janice Fleishman (you can get her correct spelling on the website where they list of all the meduims).

Cheers, and so loving your podcast. I have recommended it to all my spiritual friends.

I’ve been doing them every second day in a dose of .2-.3 grams, which at first I thought would have zero effect. But I am noticing pronounced effects on my speech patterns and how well I can communicate with other people(increased memory, better use of hand gestures, sentences flow better)..I’ve noticed it’s easier to comprehend topics, as I took a microdose a day before a test at school studied for three hours and took in everything i read here http://www.trufflemagic.com/blog/microdosing-magic-mushrooms/. Without much prior knowledge on the exam from not paying attention/ being lazy in class. I did manage to get a 76, which where I am from is a B. I tried a suduko while microdosing, it was much easier, and took me about 6 minutes to complete, it was rated moderate difficulty

Just came across this Ryan. One of my favorite childhood memories. You were definitely the King of the Universe on that day.

Hey, im not sure how to find it but I heard the podcast on therianthropy. Id just like to say thank you, our community is small and we’re super grateful for the piece. It was amazing 😁 I heard you mention how not all of us identify as wolves and I thought of a quote: “all fake therians are wolves but not all wolves are fake therians”. Basically all therians who aren’t actually therians choose wolves as their types.
I also wanted to say that if you get messages from people who believe they are therians, please direct them to either therian nation (all social media sites) or therian guide.
    Avoid it.
    It’s trash.
    There is no therian truths.
    There is no therian magic.
    It’s absolutely rubbish.
    Please. Avoid it.
Please visit therianguide.com (unless they changed it) for TRUE information.

A book I listened too in audio format recently, and I highly recommend is by Mike Murphy, “The Creation Frequency”. This book is so powerful I believe, because not only does it take the principles and concepts of changing the way you think, think about what you want, and from a state and place of positivity. We know or at least understand the theory of thoughts are things. They have power and how we all create and manifests everything we have or don’t have in our lives. But he addresses the elephant in the room nobody greater than anyone else I have heard talk about; he says how we need to deal with the subconscious mind or the unconscious mind. Since psychology has acknowledged that unconscious properties or something of the sort is controlling or behind the wheel. It is very impactful and I highly recommend.
