I’ll be headlining Wiley’s Comedy Club in Dayton, OH, this Thursday (3/11).  It should be a fun time for sure and it is my first time officially headlining one of the clubs I started performing comedy.  Tickets are only $5 and showtime is at 8 pm.

I just got back the Laughing Skull Comedy festival in Atlanta, GA, this past weekend.  It was a blast and I met A LOT of great comics and some very interesting characters.  We are now in the final days of the voting for CMT’s Next Big Comic Contest and I am really grateful for all the votes and support I have been getting locally and nationally.  Thanks for voting and you can continue to vote for me here or by texting FUNNY12 to 32709.

If I win, you will be able to see a very short acceptance speech video on CMT Monday at sometime after they announce the winner.  Regardless of the outcome, it has been a lot of fun and a really cool ride.

Some people have been asking me about the cartoon thing and all I can tell you is that I am still trying to get someone to take a chance on it and I will hopefully know by the end of next month of it will be given a chance to bring some unique and original stylings to a network near you.  And my latest internet commercial series shall be coming up online soon.  I really think it might be some great stuff, we shall wait and see.

I am happy to report that I have a legitimate review for my new album. I do not know the guy who reviewed the cd, did not give him money, did not promise him sexual favors (at least I think), and did not give him free drugs. I should also say that it has been a weird fascination of mine to feel like I needed a review by someone I did not know so that I could in some feel more legitimate.

This is a stupid desire as I have no control over whether or not someone reviews my album, but it was something I wanted nonetheless. I should clarify that the type of review did not matter to me. It could have been as bad as “someone please cut Ryan Singer’s mouth off with a dirty butter knife so that he may never tell another joke again,” or something rather glowing. I just wanted a review in general. If you are saying in your head right now, “You’re full of shit, Ryan!” I am not going to say you are crazy.  But, it is so.

I just always felt this was some form of validation ever since I was a kid and thought about having an album because I heard of and learned about so many through reviews. Having said all that, rather written all of that, you should check out the review I got from John Delery at Punchline Magazine.  The cool thing about this whole thing for me is that I go to Punchline multiple times everyday to check on stand up comedy news and things.  They’re a really awesome site if you’re a comedy fan.

I also really want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has bought the album and has had such great things to say about it.  It means a lot to me that people seem to be enjoying the cd and hopefully more and more people will as well.  I am grateful for all the support, ya’ll.

So, this is pretty cool. I was selected as one of 12 finalist by CMT to compete in their “Next Big Comic” Contest” and it will take place on their website – cmt.com. Is this a ploy to drive traffic to their website and get some new visitors? Maybe it is, but as I have never allowed myself to compete in one of these contest before, I figured this one was a good first time.

I have not partaken in contests that require you to hassle people for votes because I find them annoying. But, they much like a lot of other things in this business, have become a common occurrence. I am looking forward to being a part of it because the other comics they selected are all really good and some of them are friends of mine. So, it is really cool to be included in their company for such a thing.

I apologize in advance if you get tired of my requests for votes, but keep in mind that this contest last 5 weeks if I make it to the end. It will either be me hassling you for over a month or less. I think it is funny and that they probably just do not have a good sense of humor. But, then again, maybe it doesn’t quite hit their target demographic? What do you think? For the record, people wearing ties as a rule should not be making creative and/or comedy content decisions. Also for the record, I have no way of knowing if whomever rejected this video was actually wearing a suit and tie at the time. Maybe it was a pants suit instead? I just like proving to myself that people in suits do not share the same vision of comedy that I have. Will I ever be mainstream? Aren’t I already? Truth be told, I’m having too much fun doing what I am doing right to even worry about that. I was lucky enough to be on an awesome new podcast called “We Need to Talk,” co-hosted by my buddies Mike Cody and Tom Bolton recently.  I appreciate them having me on as a guest.  I had a blast recording the episode.  I just want to let everyone know that when I am a guest on any kind of show like this, I leave my performer shoes at the door on the way in.  I know a lot of funny people and they are hilarious when they are being interviewed and I enjoy it.  But, what I enjoy the most is when someone I am a fan of is being interviewed and I find something out about them that is real.

That is why I love A&E Biographies so much and read a lot of biographies.  So, naturally I am inclined to steer my interviews in that direction, not that there are people wondering about the “real life” of me necessarily.  But, just thought I would let you know about the overall tone of this podcast.  Not to say that there are not a lot of funny moments during the hour plus recording because I believe there are.  Anyways, I hope you like it and I am including some links that are related down below:

I am proud to announce that we are doing a second installment of the “Flick My Clip – Comedy Shorts Festival.” The inaugural screening was a success. And yes, I used the term “inaugural” as I intend for it to become an institution rivaling that of Sundance and the like.  The Second Installment will be held once again at Go Bananas Comedy Club and will be on February 16th, 2010.  We had awesome shorts graciously given to us for screening by so many talented folks, it was a real treat and I am hoping to make it even bigger and better this time around.  I want you to be a part of it!

Part of the reason, the main reason why we wanted to start this festival is to get the local comedians with a love of making comedy shorts and local filmmakers who have a love of comedy together in a collaborative relationship. At least, in my mind, it seems beneficial that these two worlds would merge at least for moments of glory in the future. Why not try to get the best out of the resources and talent in our area?

We had some great surprises at the festival and I hope for even more this time around. I am begging at this point for all local and national and worldly short comedy filmmakers to submit to me their videos. If you think it is funny, I want to see it. There is no prize, no esteemed recognition that comes along with acceptance at this point. But, you will get your hard work showcased in front of some great and truly educated fans of comedy. The local comedy fans in Cincinnati and the surrounding areas have proven time and time again that they would and in fact, will support comedy that they find meets their demands.

No matter how rich, how famous, how disconnected I may ever become, one thing is certain: I intend to carry on the tradition of “Flick My Clip” until I am in the grave. And, I happen to be a bit tired and have run out of Mountain Dew to think of another one inspiring me as much as him at this very moment. This installment of Under the Rock is going to be video heavy. Why? Because it needs to be. That’s why. I feel I have been remiss by not embedding more videos of the artists that I have been writing about instead of just linking you to their stuff. Although just having to click a mouse once or twice seems as though it would be quite simple to do, let’s be honest. Nowadays, if it is not right in front of our faces, we seldom will click our way to find it unless it is a thing or person we are seeking out on our own.  So…

I am going to embed some funny videos that I watch over and over and over again due to their awesomeness, originality, hilarity, or just plain nonsensicalness. I hope you also enjoy these videos as it would be a great indicator of the future of our growing, burgeoning friendship. If you do not like these videos, it is okay. It is better we find out now that we are not truly compatible than finding it out after we have moved in together.

Tim Minchin is one of my new favorite people in the world. He is so funny and he is huge overseas. I had not heard of him until recently and my life is so much better now because of it. The first video I ever saw of him was not necessarily a hugely hilarious video, but I think it speaks to a couple of things: He is insanely gifted and he has an incredibly wide range, which will be exhibited by the videos I am embedding to follow. The first one will take 6 minutes of your life and you will be glad it did, if not wishing it took more. Further speaking to his bad-ass-ness, he has a youtube video so his fans can watch videos of live performances. This video is one such case:

Here is a promo video (commercial) that I made for my new comedy cd, How To Get High Without Drugs.  It was shot and edited by my buddy Sherif Hedayat.  My good friend, Meghan Fay was gracious enough to play the “hot chick” in this video and I think she pulls that role off with an extreme ease and naturalness.  Big thanks to those two for making this possible.
